Dorset Council has partnered with Ferndown Town Council and Litter Free Dorset to refurbish Victoria Road, Ferndown’s Highstreet.
Residents are keen to see trees replanted, as earlier in the year deteriorating planters containing large trees were removed from the footway due to safety concerns.
Benches are in poor condition and inappropriate footway parking creates hazards and is distracting from the town’s appearance.
Ferndown Town Clerk, Liz Bishopp said: “The aim is to reinvigorate and improve the environment of Victoria Road – plus enhancing the natural environment, encouraging pollinators and providing a safe, accessible area for residents and visitors to sit.
“Planters and trees were removed in January 2025, and this has been the catalyst for the current project.
“There may be some minor delays if it is decided to install bollards, but these would be planned to ensure minimal disruption to the Highstreet.
“Depending on lead-times for the selected project, we hope to begin work in the spring of 2026.”
The project wants to create a more welcoming and accessible space for residents, businesses and visitors to support Ferndown’s economy.
The project also aims to add flag poles which are holding flags with seasonal wording, planters with integrated seating spaced along the footway, as well as new cycle racks and bins.
The total project cost is £269,000, split between the Community Infrastructure Levy, Litter Free Dorset, and Dorset Council.

To make the most of this budget, Ferndown Town council and Dorset Council have provided public engagement events at the Barrington centre for residents to give their feedback on the project.
An online survey regarding the project is also available until the 15th of November for residents who could not make it to the events in person to give their feedback.
