Bournemouth Rugby continue their push for promotion

Bournemouth Rugby have been on a charge in recent weeks, not losing a single away game since the summer of 2024.

The Lions are 34 games unbeaten, sitting four points clear at the top of the Regional 2 South Central as the squad push towards their promotion charge.

Club captain Grant Hancox spent a long time watching from the side as his squad were picking up these wins.

Hancox was out with an 11 month ACL injury, one that he feared could have ended his career for good, but he did return and scored the winning penalty in their 33-30 win against Old Tiffinians.

Hancox said: “My time at Bournemouth has been a rollercoaster of ups, and downs. From surviving relegation battles, winning a league title by a record margin. I feel the club is now in a fantastic position to push on.”

He has been one of the clubs most influential players making over 200 appearances and scoring over 2000 points for the club since joining back in 2014.

He made his debut for the senior squad at 23 and said: “I’ve seen many head coaches and countless players over the years, a lot of whom will be friends for life. This club has given me so much more than I could ever pay back.”

The clubs growth over recent years has been huge, with the squad being much bigger and much better than they were before.

Hancox said: “Recent success is down to not only the drive of the club, but from individuals pulling together. The coaching staff and players are the heart of what we are about. To see senior rugby with north of 35 players training week in, week out is testament to how far the club has come in the last 2 years, after a couple of tough years.”

Then now look ahead to their next fixture against Reeds Weybridge this weekend, a rescheduled game as the game was called off last weekend.

However, recent flooding at Chapel Gate (Home Ground) could see The Lions face another long wait before their next game.
