A Bournemouth man is raising money by completing five marathons in five days on different cross trainers across Bournemouth.
Patrick Rowson, who is a Wigan native, but moved to Bournemouth in his teens, is set to cover the equivalent of 26.219 miles in aid of Mary’s Meals, on a cross-trainer, for 5 consecutive days.
Starting on the 2nd of February, through to Friday the 6th, Rowson will be taking on a marathon a day at different BH Live facilities across Bournemouth.
Rowson is raising money for Mary’s meals, who ensure children in the poorest communities around the world, have a nutritious meal at school.
Rowson was open with his struggles during his upbringing, admitting he was a “free school meal kid”
“Kids are not going to school, because their scared of not being able to eat.
In a way It’s doing the same thing people did for me, but just in different areas. This charity makes sure kids get fed, educated and they go onto further things, like a career or Uni.”
Rowson lost both of his parents during his youth, and believes that this will spur him on.
“When the money comes in it keeps you motivated, and I’ve lost family members so I will be thinking about them a lot. They will keep me focussed and going.”
Rowson, a keen football referee, attributes injuries for his challenge on the cross trainer.
“I picked up an achilleas injury from too much refereeing, so I found something that wasn’t weight-bearing that still gave me the same buzz. Then I realised I can go further and further.”
Generally I’ll do it in about 3 hours, but whether I need to slow it down or not will depend on how I’m feeling.” Said Rowson
The mammoth challenge will certainly take time, and with 5 days for Rowson to complete, recovery will be key.
“I will be eating well, lots of carbs and having lots of water, but ill still have a few beers in the evening and a glass of with without a doubt”
Rowson is under no illusions as to the challenge he has ahead of him.
“It will be tough, but if it keeps children fed and in school, it’ll be worth it.”
Rowson has a target of £1,000, and is just over a third of the way there.
