Breaking News: Carrick close to finalising deal to become Manchester United boss
Michael Carrick has been photographed pulling into Carrington this morning as he is reportedly in the final stages of becoming the new Manchester United manager.
BBC Sport and Sky Sports report that there is an agreement in place for him to be appointed by Manchester United as the First Team Manager until the end of the 2025/2026 season following the departure of Ruben Amorim, early this year.
BBC Sport also report that former AFC Bournemouth interim manager Jonathan Woodgate will be part of Carrick’s coaching team.
Carrick previously had the role of Interim Manager at the club following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjær in 2021.
He follows the interim tenure of Darren Fletcher who led the team to a draw and a third round FA cup exit to Brighton.
Between October 2022-June 2025, Carrick took charge of Middlesbrough in the championship.
A job where he achieved playoffs in his first season, missing out to Coventry in the semi-finals and achieving 8th and 10th place finishes in the seasons that followed.
Carrick amassed a 46.3% win rate at Middlesbrough a club that was always predicted for promotion by bookmakers before the season started.
More to follow.
