Eight fire stations have been put at risk across Dorset including: Hamworthy and Maiden Newton, Charmouth and Cranborne in Dorset
This is following on from a fire review that has lasted for the past three years and ‘significant’ financial challenges which include the rise in costs, national insurance and below average council tax contributions for the fire services.
Despite the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s (DWFRS) attempt to lobby the government for better funding the financial pressures means that they must take action to ensure that the DWFRS remains sustainable for the future.
The Firefighter Union is now calling on its members to rally together ahead of a meeting on February 10th where the Fire Authority will discuss the proposed closures.
Chief Fire Officer, Andy Cole said: “My focus now is on supporting staff through the uncertain months ahead. I want to recognise the professionalism, pride and commitment shown by firefighters across the Service.
“I know how deeply connected people are to their station, and their community, and I do not underestimate how personal this will feel.”
Public consultation will run for 13 weeks with a decision set to be made on the proposed closures on June 30th.
