Brook and Root both hit centuries in final ODI

England have finished their 50 over innings against Sri Lanka with 357 runs following centuries from Joe Root and captain Harry Brook.

Both English batsman completed quickfire centuries with Root hitting his in 100 balls and Brook battering this with a 57 ball century.

This is the third ODI (one day international) between England and Sri Lanka which got underway this morning in the capital, Colombo.

Today’s match is the series decider, as Sri Lanka came away with the win in the first but England bounced back in the second match with a five wicket victory. England are playing with an unchanged lineup after their latest victory as they hope to replicate that today.

It’s been an overall good morning for Harry Brook’s England side as they’ve soaked up the pressure well and picked off the easy ball.

Harry Brook, leads the scoring chart for England as he finished England’s innings comfortably on 136 runs with Root not far behind on 111.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for England though, as the morning started with Ben Duckett being bowled by Sri Lankan spin bowler Dhananjaya de Silva after just 17 balls.

Shortly after Rehan Ahmed was also dismissed for 24 runs which brought Jacob Bethell onto the crease with Root. This partnership lasted for 126 runs getting England back into the driving seat until Bethell fell for 68.

The experience of Root in particular allowed England to steady the ship and allowed Harry Brook to play in classic one day style, as he hit nine sixes and eleven fours in his 66 ball stint.

With England now getting ready to bowl, Hampshire Hawks star Liam Dawson will be attacking the Sri Lankan batsman. He will be looking to improve on his singular wicket taken in the last ODI game on Saturday.

The English attack will be wary of Sri Lankan batsman Kusal Mendis, after his impressive 93 runs in the first ODI of the series. Mendis is set to be batting third for the Lions as they need to score 358 to take the series victory.
