The Project Climbing Centre in Poole will be hosting a Flashmaster competition being hosted on February 23rd.
With qualifiers starting between 6-8 pm, then the finals between 8:30- 9:30 pm on the comp wall, the top six climbers will make it through to the two-bloc final.
The aim of the competition is to climb as quickly as possible for the qualifiers, as the qualifiers will be timed and the finals will be judged.
Instructor Jamie Truscott said: “It’s an amazing event itself as you see these amazing people climb with great atmosphere.”
Climber Will Huet said: “You’ve got to be strong with your body weight and with a good technique, as you’ve got to use your brain, as I have missed a couple of routes while climbing before.”
As the competition last year was competitive, could there be more competitors this year?
The company believes that providing sessions and competitions helps build a social aspect and a frame of mind and will attract more people to the venue.
Truscott said: “ Climbing is a way of being social and helps mental health, people come here for the support.”
The climbing centre aims to build a community to share thoughts and ideas to create a balance between the competitive and the social side.
Huet believes it’s great to have a support network by meeting new people, as Huet said: “ I moved here five years ago and met most of my friends here as I come here every weekend.”
In April, they will also be hosting an event at the Dolphin Centre in Poole with 60 world-class boulders for all abilities.
The Big Weekend competition is Europe’s best modern comps, with the strongest climbers in the UK in the semi-final and final under the lights.
It will be hosted over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday of 18th and 19th of April, it will be running from 9 am to 8 pm on Saturday and 8 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
It’s designed to bring the climbing community together with movement and shared psyche.
There will be cash prizes for the top three, it’s accessible to all genders and ages.
