Dorset Council announce school transport cancellation due to weather

Dorset Council has cancelled school transport on the 30th of January due to the Met Office’s forecast of heavy rain.

Potential heavy rainfall is expected overnight – the area already has a “number of road closures” in place due to river catchment areas being impacted.

The decision has been made county-wide, which includes the cancellations of journeys to and from school taking place from tomorrow.

In a statement on social media, Dorset council said: “This decision has not been made lightly, and we understand frustrations from parents, carers and school leaders. But we have to consider whether the transport can safely take children to and from school.

“Children using public transport may not be affected. Check bus information for details. School leaders will make the decision on whether their school will remain open or close.”

Tammy Jo, a mother of four, will have to miss a hospital appointment due to the cancellations.

Tammy lives in a village in Charminster, which has been affected by flooding and said: “It has impacted me, but I completely understand why the schools have had to close. Especially with the teacher and student ratio.”
