Dorset Fire and Rescue were called to Boscombe Sovereign Centre today at 8:30am following reports of an internal panelling fire. Dorset Fire and Rescue said: “Rescue teams from Westbourne, Springbourne and Christchurch responded.”
The team was able to put the fire out by 9:25am. Mr. B, an anonymous employee who was working inside that morning said: “I started to small like a burning plasticky smell.
I came outside and just outside the shop near the roof there was a fire. It wasn’t a very big fire, it was quite small. I think it was an electric fire so it was quite contained.”
No injuries have been reported. Everyone was evacuated and went to the designated fire zones.
The next door shops, Incups and Glamour Girl, were also required to close their doors to not allow anyone access to the Sovereign Centre.
A spokesperson for the Sovereign Centre said: “The Sovereign Centre was closed to the public following a small fire at the centre this morning which was quickly contained by the Fire Service who were on site rapidly. The Fire Service contained the isolated matter and confirmed the centre as safe. The Centre is undertook further standard health and safety checks before re-opened to the public at 12 O’clock for business as usual.”
