The UEFA Champions League returns tonight for what is expected to be the final full midweek programme of fixtures in the league phase of this season’s competition, with all teams kicking off at 8pm.

With the table now taking shape and the race for automatic qualification intensifying under the new format, every match has the potential to influence who progresses directly to the round of 16 and who must contest the knockout play-offs.

In this season’s structure, the top eight teams in the 36‑club league table qualify automatically, while those finishing ninth to 24th enter two-legged play-offs for a place in the last 16.

A result of interest to followers of former AFC Bournemouth players comes in the match involving Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs go into their game against Eintracht Frankfurt in a position where a win tonight would guarantee an automatic top eight finish and direct progression into the round of 16.

Former AFC Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke scored in Spurs’ most recent Champions League outing, netting in their 2–0 win over Borussia Dortmund earlier in the competition.

His involvement this season continues his participation at the highest level following his development into a consistent Premier League goal scorer during his time on the south coast.

Arsenal, who remain unbeaten in the league phase, will take on Kairat Almaty with a view to reinforcing their position among the automatic qualifiers, while Manchester City hosts Galatasaray as they continue their bid to finish among the top eight.

Liverpool also play at home, facing Qarabağ FK as they seek valuable points ahead of the final matchday.

Elsewhere in Europe, heavyweight fixtures include Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, all competing in games that could have significant implications for group standings.

With many teams bunched closely in the league table, tonight’s results could trigger notable movement in the order.

With the Champions League phase nearing its close, the final midweek night of fixtures is expected to play a significant role in determining the European landscape for the coming months, as clubs aim to secure direct passage through to the last 16 or avoid the uncertainty of the knockout play-offs.
