Storm Chandra has caused a danger to life flood warning to be issued

A severe flood warning has been put in place and residents at a home park in Dorset have been told to evacuate their properties.

Residents have been told to back a bag with essential items as they will be away from their homes overnight.

The Environment Agency issued the severe flood warning on Wednesday morning.

Staff from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council are at the site with emergency services, helping residents to evacuate.

Councillor Andy Hadley has confirmed that the council team are doing what they can to make sure both people and their pets are okay.

“We are trying to work with others to make sure that they’re kept safe and make sure people have somewhere warm to go to”.

He continues, “this has been a situation that has been rising over a period so we knew it was coming.”

National Fire Chiefs have called on the Government to discuss establishing a statutory duty for fire and rescue services across England to respond to flooding incidents which pose a risk to life.

They have warned that the flood risk in England is rising faster than legal funding framework in place to support the response of emergency services.

Power to the site, which has 80 homes, is also expected to be impacted by flooding.

River levels are expected to peak at 3.66m at approximately 2pm on Wednesday, it added.

The council have estimated that 50 properties had been affected by flooding across Ilminster, West Coker, Taunton, Mudford and West Camel.

Storm Chandra has been named by the Western Europe Storm naming group list which is shared between the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands.

By this morning there were 87 flood warnings, and 215 flood alerts in place across England.

The storm brought weather warnings, disruption and flooding across parts of the UK on Tuesday.
