Former Bournemouth University (BU) student, Brad Currie, is in the squad for Scotland in what will be his second T20 Cricket World Cup for his nation.
Scotland are travelling to the World Cup, following a late call-up for the event after the ICC have replaced Bangladesh with the Scots.
Scotland were only admitted into the tournament three days ago following Bangladesh’s refusal to play in India, but they have jumped at the opportunity to play in group C.

Currie said: “It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, phones really not stopped but hopefully we’re not going to be caught on the cold too much but it’s certainly some unforeseen circumstances for us.”
In Scotland and Currie’s last outing in World Cup 2024, they failed to make it out of the group stage as England pipped them to the knockout stage.
Left heartbroken after his previous World Cup experience, Currie said: “I feel a little bit like revenge is needed because the last one I played in I got injured, and there’s obviously that real hunger to put that wrong right and hopefully try and get out of the group stage this time.”
This time round, Scotland enter the tournament in Group C alongside the West Indies, England, Italy and Nepal with three out of their four group games being played in Kolkata.
The groupings are made up of two full member nations in England and West Indies and then three associate members which are Nepal, Italy and now Scotland.
Currie told BUzz: “I think it could be a fascinating group and I just hope there’s a bit of drama in this group and hopefully we can be there to cause it.”
The Scottish team are flying out to India today and many are still waiting for their VISA’s to be approved because of the last-minute rush.
Once they do arrive, Currie and his side have just enough time for a couple of warm-up games against Afghanistan and Namibia which Currie compared the feeling to “revising the night before a test”.
Being a local lad from Poole Currie is excited at the prospect of playing England as he said “it will be a special game, I think even more so for my family and there’s a little bit of an added spice but I’m always going to treat it like any other game.”
Success is always at the forefront of any athlete’s mind and Currie’s is no different saying “if we can get out of the group, that’s always been my goal and to play in a quarter finals or a super 8’s or whatever stage we’re at, it will just be so cool.”
Scotland and Currie’s campaign begins in just 11 days’ time as they face off against West Indies at 9:30 am UK time.
