January 16, 2026 //  by Grace Oakins

Staff at the Cumberland Hotel braced the winter temperatures for a cold water plunge for Dorset Mind.

Abi Paler, Lauren Sullivan and Ed Pickering, who all work at the hotel, took the charitable dip in the outdoor swimming pool.

The temperature of the water is said to be around 3 degrees celsius, colder than the average temperature of the sea, 9 degrees celsius.

They are supporting Dorset Mind, a local charity that challenges mental health stigma and inequality of access to services across Dorset.

Abi Paler said, “looking at how much we raised I am proud of what we’ve done.”

So far, the three have raised nearly £400 for the charity.
