New Greek restaurant set to open in Wallisdown

January 20, 2026 //  by Editor Blue

The new restaurants doors, which are set to be open, with construction equipment outside

A new independent Greek restaurant, Crete Island is set to open in early February and is owned by Angela Ntente and her husband, Pandeli Kumaraku. The pair hope to bring a taste of Greece to Bournemouth and bring a new multicultural light to the ever-developing ecosystem of Bournemouth as a whole.

The idea came around 2 years ago when Angela’ desire to own a restaurant first sparked. After researching, she found a place to call their own in the nearby area and built their project from the ground up.

Coming from a family full of chefs, it felt like the right move.

Angela Ntente said “I came from a family that are all chefs; my dad is a chef, my mum is a chef, my husband is a chef. It’s just me that’s not a chef.”

It hasn’t been an easy journey towards the grand opening. After securing the place, the coupe had to sort out the licensing, fridges and all the items needed for the kitchen to run smoothly.

Angela Ntente expressed their difficulties in finding equipment that is “good quality and budget friendly”.

Down to the construction work, Angela Ntente and Pandeli Kumaraku are putting together the restaurant independently.

“We have not hired anybody which is why I find it challenging as well.” Angela Ntente said.

Angela used to work in a restaurant in Bearwood and the customers there were a highlight.

“I hope I get the same experience here as well” Angela Ntente said.

Angela highlighted an exciting item on her menu, the pastitsio, saying that it was a personal favourite. “It’s kind of the same as a lasagna but in a Greek way, it’s very simple and I like pasta a lot”.

Crete Island is set to open next month and will bring yet another independent business to the local area along with a fresh new taste.
