Southampton take on Sheffield United Tomorrow night in the EFL Championship as they look to end a 7-game streak without a win in the competition.
The Saints currently sit in 15th place, 10 points away from 6th-place Preston, who occupy the final playoff spot and six points away from relegation.
The game comes just days after Saints manager Tonda Eckert discussed his position at the club, saying that he is not worried about his future at Saint Mary’s.
In his press conference today, Eckert spoke about how the mindset of the club can be fixed around focusing on what is to come, I think that we need to look forward.
“It doesn’t bring us anywhere, talking too much about the past and about what has happened. We need to look forward, and we have a big, big game coming up tomorrow.”
Eckert spoke about the changes coming to the squad tomorrow, “There’s going to be some changes in the starting lineup tomorrow. But it’s not the reason that has happened now, or what has happened against Middlesbrough.
“I think it’s normal if we play three games a week, that we also need to have a certain freshness on the pitch. It’s a big one for us coming up on Sunday as well. So we will have a couple of changes in the lineup tomorrow”
The German discussed the challenges of dancing Chris Wilder’s, Sheffield United, “They create a lot. I think together with us, they are one of the teams that create the most (chances) in the championship.
“You see, in the way that they are set up, it’s proper championship football. I think he (Chris Wilder) knows exactly what he’s doing. He knows the club inside out.
“We do also see some ways where we can hurt them, and we’ll make sure that we come strong tomorrow.”
A loss tomorrow will see Sheffield United leapfrog the Saints and will push Southampton further away from the play-offs.
When he first came in, Eckert won 5 out of his first six games with things looking up at Saint Mary’s, but the Saints now find themselves on the back end of a seven-game league winless streak.
Kick off is at 7:45 pm tomorrow, after weeks of not getting it over the line Eckert’s men will look to put their season back on track.
