Southampton have been handed their FA Cup fourth round tie after edging past League Two side Doncaster Rovers.

Saints held a 3-0 lead away at Doncaster’s Eco-Power Stadium at half time before the hosts scored twice in the second half to give Southampton a scare.

Southampton will now host fellow Championship side Leicester City in the fourth round.

Tonda Eckert’s side are due to play Leicester that weekend already in the Championship, however that fixture will be postponed to play the FA Cup game.

The teams have already met once this season with the Saints coming out on top in a 3-0 win thanks to a brace from Taylor Harwood-Bellis and a goal from Finn Azaz.

Southampton are struggling this season after a poor start to the campaign and now sit 15th in the table, four points behind Leicester who are 12th.

Fellow south coast side AFC Bournemouth lost out on a fourth-round place after a close penalty shootout defeat to Newcastle United.

Marcus Tavernier scored in the 122nd minute to tie the game 3-3 and send the game to penalties.

The shootout lasted 18 penalties it was Bafodé Diakité who saw his penalty saved by Aaron Ramsdale to give Newcastle the 7-6 shootout win.

Elsewhere in the competition, sixth tier side Macclesfield caused the biggest upset in FA Cup history when they beat holders Crystal Palace 2-1.

Macclesfield, of the National League North, packed 5,348 fans into their ground to see John Rooney’s side beat a poor Palace team.

Salford vs Swindon is due to be played on Tuesday 20th of January after the fixture was postponed due to Salford’s pitch freezing over on Saturday and being ruled unplayable.

The fourth-round draw in full:

Liverpool v Brighton
Stoke v Fulham
Oxford v Sunderland
Southampton v Leicester
Wrexham v Ipswich
Arsenal v Wigan
Hull v Chelsea
Burton v West Ham
Burnley v Mansfield
Norwich v West Brom
Port Vale v Bristol City
Grimsby v Wolves
Aston Villa v Newcastle
Manchester City v Salford or Swindon
Macclesfield v Brentford
Birmingham v Leeds

The ties will be played around the weekend of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th of February.
