The NFL (national football league) has been coming to play American Football in London since 2007 with a total of 27 regular season games having been played in the English capital since then.

In 2025 the NFL hosted three games between Wembley and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The game between the Jacksonville Jaguars against New England Patriots in 2024, saw 86,651 people fill Wembley Stadium which is a 10,000 person rise from a 2011 game between the Bears vs. Buccaneers.

B.J.Green is a defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars and he spoke to Buzz news about the rise of NFL in London. “I think the longer the NFL goes to Europe and to foreign countries other than the US, the more attendance we’re going to see grow.

I was quite surprised to see a lot of attendance this year but I think it just comes with time because it’s a different sport than you guys are used to watching.”

When coming to London, it’s not just the change of scenery that’s different for NFL players.

Green said “The grass is different, your guys’ grass is a lot more loose than the grass we’re used to playing on so we had to use different cleets than what we’re used to playing in.”

The biggest attendance of 86,651 puts London on the map with other NFL stadiums. For example, the Dallas Cowboys recorded an average attendance of 93,000 in the 2025 season but all-time record attendance for an American Football game is 112,376 in New Mexico 1994.

Speaking on playing at Wembley Stadium Green said, “ Wembley can compete with the best NFL stadiums, Wembley was an electric environment  from start to finish. Wembley was really awesome.”

The Jags and Green’s season has come to an end after the Jags lost to the Bills in their Wild Card matchup. However, Green is already thinking about his UK return.

“I’m looking forward to going back to London, I had such a great time in London the first time that I can’t wait to go back the second time.”

The NFL is making a push to make their game more popular worldwide with the NFL academy scheme.

In the UK, the NFL is linked with Loughborough College and University and Green is very aware of what the academy is doing across the world as he said “I see the videos on YouTube of the guys trying to make the league and seeing that the sport is growing in different parts of the world is awesome.”

NFL and B.J.Green’s Jags will return to London next season, when their game is scheduled for October 19th at Wembley Stadium against the Los Angeles Rams.
