Farmer Palmers in Dorset will continue to invest in work placements for young people in the ongoing battle against youth unemployment

A popular family attraction in Dorset has revealed that they have created 14 job roles for young people to be filled in the new year and are working towards creating more job opportunities for teenagers in the future.

Farmer Palmers in Dorset has taken pride in their long history of Youth Employment and in an interview, have revealed that in a bid to enhance their customer experience, are creating more job roles for teenagers, opening in January.

Although, according to Youth employment UK, we have seen the amount of unemployed young people decrease in the last four years, the family attraction in Dorset is doing all they can to increase the youngsters future job prospects.

Park Director Sandra Palmer- Snellin said: “I just think we’ve got some amazing young people in the county, they are really quite phenomenal, I’m really proud of our youngsters. They’ve got good team spirit and I think we get to pick the cream of the crop, which is a really fortunate position to be in.”

Farmer Palmers was launched in 1998 and have continued to employ young people from the outsets with employees as young as 13. Although the job roles are extremely beneficial to the younger employees developing essential life skills, the farm park also reap the benefits explaining; “If we had that many staff Monday to Friday, our overheads would be huge.”

Lydia Goodband, a current youth employee at Farmer Palmers explained “I don’t think my communication skills would have been as good if i hadn’t worked from a young age, I was always quite nervous around new people.” She also explains how being a young person in employment can be challenging, “People often think your not capable.”

There are many job roles available from birthday party coordinators to overseeing the horse rides and each role offers unique development opportunities for the teens and allowing them to gain the experience necessary to successfully qualify for jobs in the future.
