‘I worry for the country’ – Labour candidate Andrew Dunne

December 13, 2019 //  by Paul-Tregunna//  Leave a Comment

Andrew Dunne, Labour candidate for Christchurch, left, with BUzz reporter Paul Tregunna.

Labour candidate for Christchurch Andrew Dunne says he “worries for the country” following this evening’s exit poll.

A thumping 86-seat Conservative majority is projected, leaving Labour with just 191 seats, losing 71 seats from the 2017 General Election.

Dunne said he “worried for the country, worried in terms of Brexit, and where the country is going to go”.

In the battle for the Christchurch constituency, Dunne is really up against it as the seat is currently held by Sir Christopher Chope with a whopping majority of 69.6% – the highest Tory majority in the country.

‘”I would consider it a win in this election,” Dunne said of the prospect of narrowing the gap between Chope and himself.

The Christchurch result is expected to be announced at 3am, the earliest of the five seats being declared here at the BIC throughout the night.
