Conservative candidate for Mid Dorset and North Poole Michael Tomlinson, 42 is is hoping for his third election victory.
After successfully being elected twice to represent his constituency, Mr Tomlinson is focusing his campaigning efforts on five main topics – education, justice, infrastructure, employment and helping refugees.
Education
Schools in Poole and Dorset are some of the lowest funded per pupil in the country. This appears to be an anomaly, which Mr Tomlinson has been campaigning to change this since 2015. His aim is to “ensure that for the first time funding is based on the individual needs and characteristics of every school in the country”.
Employment
As chairman of the All Parliamentary Group for Youth Employment, Mr Tomlinson conducts a monthly group meeting to discuss and highlight improvements as well as different practises in the UK.
“Although these are moving in the right direction – youth unemployment is still too high.”
Infrastructure
Working with local MPs, Mr Tomlinson is campaigning to improve the infrastructure of Dorset and Poole, as well as promoting the need for strong Broadband in the area.
“Infrastructure is vital to all those who live, work and visit Dorset.”
Justice
One of Mr Tomlinson’s personal passions prisoner rehabilitation. He wants to ensure and secure opportunities for all those released from prison, from employment to creating a stable environment. He is also working closely with essential charities such as Footprints and Clean Sheet.
“I intend to play my full part in helping to shape this new legislation.”
Helping refugees
With extensive volunteering experience, Mr Tomlinson is aiming to work closely with councils to help support the 20,000 Syrian refugees arriving in the UK.
“Hundreds of residents have contacted me, urging more to be done to help refugees.”
