Poole Town manager Tommy Killick was pleased with another 3 points after their 1-0 win against Gosport Borough on Tuesday night, but was honest in his assessment that his side “didn’t play particularly well’.

Killick claimed Gosport would be “aggrieved” that they were beaten at the Black Gold, especially after the amount of possession they were able to attain.

The win sent the Dolphins into first, and maintained their unbeaten start after winning the game through a superb effort by Tony Lee from 25-yards out, hitting the underside of the crossbar on it’s way in.

Regarding Tony Lee’s goal, Killick said: “Tony by his own admission didn’t play anything like as well as he has for us in some of the other games, but it was a brilliant goal to win the game so that’s a huge positive for him.”

Next up in the league for Poole is second placed Tiverton Town in a top of the table clash.

On his confidence of coming away with a result, Killick said: “The players have a lot of belief at the moment and the belief can carry through even when you’re taken into difficult waters like we were tonight.”

Tiverton will be a different sized task for Poole, with the side also beginning the new season successfully – racking up 6 wins and a superior goal difference to The Dolphins.

Killick believes his side now have what it takes to face the threat posed by Tiverton: “There’s going to be elements of the game that will be difficult, and you’re going to have to do your fair share of defending.

“I feel we have a resilience now and a belief that we can withstand pressure and still score when we get the opportunity.”
