Poole Museum has been granted £2.24 million funding by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The funding is going towards a major redevelopment project for the museum.
This is a massive help to cover their target funding of £4.37 million.
Poole Museum’s project “Our Museum: Rediscovering Poole’s Maritime Heritage,” are now able to fund part of their plans.
This includes improvements to restoring a medieval building and adding three new galleries to their collection.
The museum work will start early this year and is expected to close by the end of the year for building and structural work.
I would like to say a huge thank you to the community…
Councillor Beverly Dunlop, the cabinet member for Culture and Vibrant places said:
“We are overjoyed that the outstanding Poole Museum has been awarded this fantastic amount of funding to help finance this important cultural project.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to the community, the project and museum team, and everyone else who has committed to making this happen.”
Former research assistant on the Maritime Exhibition, Ayra Syamsul said:
“It’s brilliant that they have more than £2 million in funding and they can actually put it in good news.
“It will be huge and they would be able to attract local artists.
“Back then we weren’t sure, we were thinking they could do it in exchange to giving them publicity but with this funding we can actually pay them.”
As a member in part of the earlier stages of the exhibition planning, Ms. Syamsul, is “happy and excited” to see how the plans will come out in the exhibition.
