Lauren Kennedy from Dorset Minds said: “We know that being active and taking part in exercise can really help to reduce stress levels that have increased during this pandemic as our bodies release endorphins when we move.
“Exercise can also increase confidence and provide a sense of achievement. It doesn’t have to be too strenuous it may even just be cleaning your home, going out for a walk in the sun, or anything that gets you moving.”
The 12-week course is funded by ASICS and aims to slowly build up member’s fitness regardless of their current fitness levels.
Miss Kennedy added: “If you’re looking for a challenge Dorset Mind have just started a running group for local beginners. The group aims to have everyone 5K or 30 minutes by the end of the course.”
The first group session got underway on Monday, with new member Mike Galw commenting on this Dorset Mind Facebook post:
“Great start to the week, thanks Laura and the other group members. It was fun and a great New Years Challenge.”
The Dorset Minds website has encouraged new members to join. It states: “Dont worry if you are completely new to running and have never done it before this group is for beginners and you will be supported every step of the way by qualified leaders as you embark your running journey.”
As well as this members will be offered a £140 ASICS voucher from Runners Need on week 5 of the programme.
