BH Travel says the new Highway code changes are welcome and ‘long overdue’.
Lucie Allen, Chair of BH Active Travel, has welcomed the new changes saying the new changes are “long overdue”.
She says the new changes clarify some of the existing rules that each one has the responsibility for the next level.
“What is new and probably the most important thing is the hierarchy of road users which clarify the concepts that those at most risk in a collision are at the top of the hierarchy.”
Allen went on to say that the most important rule in the highway code is rule number one which states “all road users should be considerate to other road users.”
She says that sometimes that consideration is lacking on our roads and that if everyone took note of that rule the “world would be a better place.”
She says in some cases that the points of the new Highway code have been taken out of context adding to the ‘unhelpful’ cyclists versus motorists narrative.
The new changes are being brought into effect from the 29th of January.
BH Active Travel has also expressed its delight at more funding being provided for Active Travel policies to improve sustainable travel in the BCP area.
The new policies would new more designated lanes for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers decreasing the risk of road traffic incidents.
