Dorset Futsal: The chase for promotion

Dorset Futsal are looking towards potential promotion into the National Futsal Series Tier 2 after clinching first place in the NFL Tier 3 South West qualifiers, with an invincible campaign so far.

The Poole-based side sit top of the table with 33 points, 12 points ahead of Portsmouth and Southsea in second.

Whilst there are still three games left in the league, Dorset have already scored 100 goals in their 11 games played.

Although this success can be attributed to anyone on the team, Luke Ballinger and Scott Milne have been essential to their winning run as they have combined for 50 goals so far this campaign.

Dorset have dominated the league with some high profile wins this season, including their 20-4 home win against Southampton Aztecs and an emphatic 17-1 win away to Maidenhead B.

Even though Dorset are guaranteed to finish top of the southwestern division, they will still have to take part in the Super League which follows the regular season.

This will involve the top two teams from both the southeast and southwest divisions, which will decide who will get the singular promotion spot to the southern second tier.

In their debut season last campaign, Dorset managed to win the southwestern division and qualify for the Super League but missed out to an overly qualified West London side, that included multiple players with Tier 1 experience.

This year, the situation is different.

As they are currently invincible and one of the best Tier 3 futsal teams in the country, they will be considered the favourites for promotion.

These next three games in the league will be crucial in Dorset’s preparation for the Super League, as should they go through with an invincible record, confidence will be high for when they face off against the other contenders.

But first, Dorset will travel to face Futsal 360 Bristol as they close out what could be their last regular season at the Tier 3 level.
