Stephen Kevin Farrant was operating a cement mixer on the A30 heading towards Sherborne when he disregarded a red traffic light on 24th July, 2023.
The driver subsequently collided with an Audi A5 that was turning right onto Sheeplands Lane.
The occupants of the Audi, two children aged 10 and 11, suffered severe injuries, including a fractured pelvis, broken clavicle, fractured ribs, lung injuries, and a laceration to the liver.
Farrant tested positive on a roadside drug test, and a later toxicology analysis showed his blood had more than six and a half times the legal limit of benzoylecgonine, which is the primary metabolite of cocaine.
Farrant, aged 53 and from Yeovil, received his sentence at Bournemouth Crown Court on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, for inflicting serious injury through careless driving and for driving while exceeding the drug limit.
