Felicia Fletcher is walking 100 miles of the Jurassic Coast in memory of her granddaughter.
67-year-old, Felicia, set up a GoFundMe page to raise money in aid for Julia’s House, a children’s hospice.
Julia’s House is a local charity dedicated to supporting the families of children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions in Dorset and Wiltshire.
Her granddaughter, who was aged 8, passed away in June last year.
Felicia admitted that she had a “heavy few months”, her granddaughter died, then a close friend and her nephew in the space of four months.
She said: “I had this thought… I really wanted to go to the sea.
“I started walking down the beach and thought it’s so amazing, it feels so right to be here and be able to process things mentally, walk it through and process my grief. It is about moving through.
“It was a tribute to my granddaughter that passed away, she loved nature, she wanted a better world.
“I hadn’t anticipated the unexpected bonus of the walking and how it has helped in multiple ways, physically, mentally and emotionally getting out there doing good and in helping others.”
Felicia is finishing her walk in stages with multiple friends who “have been amazing.”
She currently has 20 miles left to walk.
Felicia chose to fundraise for Julia’s House because she said: “They have done so much; it was the driving thing behind it. I thought what can I do to help indirectly.”
“Julia’s House does an incredible job, they provide so much, they handled everything so beautifully, very gentle and quiet.
“There really is a need for Julia’s house because they did so much to help. It was a real source of comfort and support throughout the ordeal for my granddaughter and her family.”
“I would love to help raise awareness and funds to support its essential work.”
Julia’s House provide specialist care that is individualised for each family, including care for the seriously ill child, family support, emergency and end of life care.
They care for nearly 200 families across Dorset and Wiltshire
Felicia encourages: “People to get out there and connect, do it for their own well-being and it gives it a whole different dimension if you can find a charity if you can find a charity and get someone to sponsor you.”
“I think it’s really good for anyone processing loss, going through any life-difficulty or just do it anyway, it’s a great thing to do for charity.”
Felicia has now raised her target amount of £2000 for Julia’s House.
