The government is planning to introduce Digital ID in order make the process of purchasing age restricted products, voting, and flying domestically easier.
With the rollout of a digital ID system many are concerned about the possibility for forgery or ID sharing due to the lack of human interaction during the identification process.
An employee for Co-op retail stated that it was a “good idea time wise’ and ‘took liability for the shops”.
They also said it “Could be forged” and that the “idea is great but not 100% practical”.
As said earlier these concerns are shared by many, another employee said “I honestly don’t agree with it” and “you might think I have a tinfoil hat”.
One of the benefits the government are claiming is the option to hide a users address in situations where that could be beneficial.
With the rollout coming later this year, it seems like there may be a lot the government have to do to gain public trust.
