Weymouth have terminated Keelan O’Connell’s contract with immediate effect.
The winger made 86 National League South appearances for the Terras, scoring six goals, after joining the club in the summer of 2022, having left Bournemouth’s academy without making a senior appearance for the Cherries.
The club released a short statement on social media, which read:
“Following a discussion between the clubs management and Keelan it has been agreed to terminate Keelan’s contract with immediate effect.”
“We wish Keelan the best of luck for the future and thank him for his efforts during his time with us.”
He leaves the club bottom of the Vanarama National League South, 12 points adrift of 20th place Welling United, with a game in hand.
Fans have taken to social media to express disappointment at the departure of their number seven:
@dorsetdom1905 (on X) – One of the very few players with a bit of talent who could run with the ball and make things happen. So we let him go! Sums the club up.
@ClaudeGreengra5 (on X) – When you’re lacking in quality, get rid of a bit more…..
Michael Anders (on Facebook) – Absolutely gutted!! Not given enough game time. All the best Keels
Dom Tancock (on Facebook) – Sums the club up. Keelan was one of the few that made things happen and who could create chances as well as score.
Weymouth return to league action against Enfield Town on Saturday, who are four points ahead of them in the table, but alongside the Terras in the relegation zone.
