A Bournemouth based rugby player has expressed his shock at being picked for the Dorset & Wiltshire squad for the upcoming Jason Leonard U20s County Championship.
Ethan Mullan, 19, hails from Ireland, and came to England to study, balancing his rugby and academia at AECC (Anglo-European College of Chiropractic)
He’s been selected as a hooker in manager Mark Adam’s squad, having gained experience at home for Ulster Province at U18 level.
He also holds the distinction of being the first East Dorset Dockers player to represent Dorset at county level since East Dorset and Dockers merged in 2020.
On the call up to the squad, he said:
“It was more of a surprise to me.”
“I didn’t actually expect to be picked, but it felt good to know that I was being recognised as someone that could compete at the U20 level.”
“It was enjoyable to be recognised like that.”
He forms a part of the 37 player squad that is setting out to avenge their defeat in the final last year, when they fell to East Midlands in the final hurdle at Twickenham.
The squad’s next training session will be on Sunday, February 16, when coach Adam will have the task of cutting players to form a smaller squad.
