New recycling standards are to take place in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP), from the end of March.
The Simpler Recycling scheme has been designed to make it easier for businesses with more than 10 employees to recycle as much waste as possible.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs scheme means that all households, workplaces and businesses will have the same set of recycling rules to reduce confusion about what can be recycled and not.
The first changes will take place from the 31st of March, which means all businesses must separate recyclable materials and food waste from their refuse.
All workplaces will need to have separate bins for refuse, recycling and food waste, all will need to have arranged collections.
The changes are to provide consistency to help a national policy meet government targets to recycle 65% of waste by 2035.
Cllr Andy Hadley, portfolio holder for climate response, environment and energy, said: “It’s really important that businesses, schools and workplaces start to plan for this national change and know how it will affect them.
“Changes to household waste collections will be introduced in 2026, including food waste in Poole and for flats across the three towns.”
BCP has made it clear that it is still important that bins are not stored on public highways and that all pavements are kept clear.
Businesses with fewer than 10 full-time employees have until March 31st 2027 to implement the changes.
