Road closures make it difficult for local school

October 17, 2025 //  by Jamie Speller

A road closure on Lansdowne road has meant that Livingstone Academy staff and students have been finding it difficult to get into school.

The roadworks were set up on the 1st September. They have had impact on the area between the Lansdowne roundabout and Madeira roundabout.

They are predicted to continue through to May 1st 2026, which is roughly a whole school year.

Office manager of the school Jess Hughes shared her personal thoughts, “It’s definitely affected staff driving to work, including myself.”

“While also mentioning the improvement to road safety in the area, “it has also had a positive effect though, where there aren’t so many people just walking out into the middle of the road.”

Whilst it’s an inconvenience to locals now, it aims to create an easier crossing between the school and the busy roundabout.

This will create a safer environment for all coming in and out of the school area including both parents and students.

However, the reaction to the roadworks has not all been positive as the school has received many angry complaints from parents regarding the time it is taking to complete.

Hughes said: “We’ve had a lot of complaints from parents, not really understanding how essential they are.”

“It is actually to make sure we have crossing in place for the school, something that we need.”

While the works are still ongoing, they continue to cause disruption for the area, however residents remain hopeful that it will mean a safer surrounding for the school.
