Bournemouth west Member of Parliament Jessica Toale has praised Bournemouth’s nightlife after it won its 15th purple flag award.
A Purple Flag award is an international accreditation for towns and city centres that demonstrate a safe and welcoming evening and night-time economy.
The awarding body, the Association of Town & City Management, has given Bournemouth the honour for the 15th consecutive year.
During a talk on the town’s safety today, Bournemouth West MP Jessica Toale said, “We should be proud of Bournemouth because it has a really thriving nightlife.”
She praised local businesses for their commitment to keeping residents safe, saying, “The award looks at how well services are joined up and what they provide to protect members of the public.”
She shared how services have been made to recover after the implications made during the Corona virus pandemic.
“The night-time economy has struggled since COVID and consumer behaviour has changed. Places have had to be creative in what they have to offer.”
Jessica, however believes that businesses have recovered well and have got back to a high standard of protection for its residents.
Bournemouth has received the Purple Flag every year since 2010. The award recognises how effectively the police, local businesses, the council and security services work together.
While this continues to be a celebrated achievement for the town, residents have been made to question Bournemouth’s safety as spiking cases are on the rise.
Bournemouth joins other towns and cities across the United Kingdom that have also received the Purple Flag 2025, including Liverpool, Belfast and Bristol.
