AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has heaped praise on midfielder Alex Scott, crediting him for his recent form after overcoming several injuries.
Scott has been plagued by knee injuries since joining Bournemouth from Bristol City in August 2023, but has already started eight matches this year, the same number as he did last campaign.
Speaking of his run of fitness, Iraola said: “He’s playing very well, and I hope we can keep him in this spot.
“I think this is the first long spell without injuries because he has had two seasons with us [and] three different knee injuries, so he has been always like a run of games and then stop [for] another three four months.”
22-year-old Scott has now made 60 appearances for the Cherries in all competitions, scoring three goals for the team.
He started his career in non-league with Guernsey, where he was born.
In his latest press conference, Iraola said: “I think he has been playing in a good level since the Euros when he was very important for England under-21’s.
“He came in a really good place to pre-season, and now I feel he’s enjoying playing and I hope we can give him that.”
Iraola also seemed pleased with his squad depth, saying: “I think also the competition with Ryan [Christie] is very good for the team – [it’s] very difficult for me because I really love both players and sometimes, I think they could play together.”
The Cherries are sat 2nd behind Arsenal in the Premier League and are back in action this weekend as they travel to Manchester City at 4:30pm this Sunday.
Iraola said ahead of the game: “They have lots of threats and that’s why they are so good.”
