Poole Museum has been reopened after a £10 million investment from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP) with no aims to stop there.
Project manager for the revamp, Alison Gudgeon, said: “It doesn’t stop with making a great space, it’s about being enterprising, and we need to ensure we can be independent of the funds from the council to sustain.”
“This project was really about that civic identity, trying to tell you the most important things we possibly can [about Poole].”
She continued “Possibly there may be actual fewer items on display, because the showcases [before] were stacked floor to ceiling. The displays [now] are richer and the way of telling the story is more coherent.”
New additions include the Museums Maritime archaeological collection, two new exhibitions and three maritime galleries.
The new exhibits were designed with the idea of accessibility in mind, looking to make it more accessible for children to promote the history of the town.
