Extinction Rebellion, the environmental change organisation in Bournemouth, is calling for change.
The group focuses on ‘emphatically rebelling against perpetrators of the catastrophic climate crisis’, as said on their social media.
Protests and Meetings are held monthly and open to new and existing members as well as anyone who feels passionate about environmental issues.
The organisation was founded in 2018 and now has 1,080 groups, with its message having spread to 40 countries worldwide.
Their last protest saw a crowd gather to listen to the drums played by theorganisation’s band, whilst flyers educating the public on their cause were handed out.
Daniel Glennon, XR BCP spokesperson, said in a press release by the group, “Communities in the Global South have done the least to cause the climate crisis but are suffering its worst impacts. Climate justice must mean reparations, debt cancellation, and solidarity with those fighting for survival, dignity and liberation.”
The march through Poole in October focused not only on environmental issues but also touched on Black History Month.
The action brought together Green, Racial Justice, Social Justice and Animal Rights groups to bring justice to people, animals and the planet.
On 13th November, the group held its monthly meeting at Branksome in Bournemouth, using the evening to plan bold and creative actions.
One member, who is staying Anonymous, said, “Did you see Rizzle Kicks brought out Zack Polanski?”
Continuing: “Their new album is very political, and they do have a responsibility because people will listen to them. It’s not like there are all these Artists behind reform, but there is for Green.”
Other members at the protest said, “I want people to know we’re not all hippies, I work in an office, have kids, and all I care about is protecting the planet.”
The organisation also run a book club and a book swap to recycle your used and unwanted books in an eco-friendly way.
The next Extinction Rebellion Event is unknown; however, more are expected to pop up around the coast in the future.
