Men’s health statistics amid Movember

November 14, 2025 //  by Erin Shaw

Every November, millions take part in fundraising either by growing moustaches, running, or creating their own challenges.

The Movember Foundation raises money and awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention to stop men dying too young.

The money raised contributes to groundbreaking research, pioneering mental health programmes and community initiatives that connect men and save lives.

Men are suffering a silent health crisis. Suicide is the leading cause of death in men aged 20 to 34 in the UK, and More than 12 men take their own lives every day in the UK.

A boy born in the UK in 2023 will be expected to live nearly 5 years less than a girl, and almost three out of four suicides are men.

This is where Movember steps in, through funding mental health programs and campaigns that encourage men to talk, the charity is working to break stigma and make help-seeking a normal part of men’s lives.

Movember also targets physical health. Prostate cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in men in the UK, with one in eight men receiving a diagnosis in their lifetime.

Movember has committed £21 million to seven key global research projects in prostate and testicular cancer.

The statistics highlight the need for charities like Movember and the awareness that they bring.

Since 2003, Movember has raised over £945 million and funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects across the globe.

Each donation contributes to closing the life expectancy gap and giving men the support they deserve.

Movember isn’t just a movement; it’s a charity that raises funds for other charities, whether they are big or small.

Movember distributes its funds raised between other men’s mental health charities such as Ahead of the Game and Men’s Pie Club.

By splitting the money between other charities, Movember spreads the awareness and support of men’s mental health further.

Men in Bournemouth have access to various support options, including Andy’s Man Club, a free peer-to-peer support group in the Henry Brown Centre, and Dorset Mind, which runs groups like “Men in Mind” with AFC Bournemouth.
