Bournemouth Writer Urges the younger generation to take up writing

November 14, 2025 //  by Kirsty Hawes

A Young Adult Fiction writer from Bournemouth is urging the younger generation to take up writing, after a lockdown hobby turned into being a published author.

A Young Adult Fiction writer from Bournemouth is urging the younger generation to take up writing, after a lockdown hobby turned into being a published author.

Georgina Bollom, 21, released her debut fantasy novel, A Royal’s Game in May 2024 after being discovered on Tik Tok.

Today she is calling out for others to fulfil their creative passions.

She said, “Reading is political, and always has been, it helps you process the world around you, as well as develop an understanding and opinion on current times.”

When writing she targeted online communities looking for beta readers to help develop the early works of A Royal’s Game.

She said, “the book wouldn’t be the same without them.”

The writer firstly experienced query rejections before small indie publisher, Ipomoea Publishing, reached out after seeing Bolloms’ Tik Toks.

She said, “this particular opportunity truly reached me when I had lost a lot of hope.”

The Bournemouth author continues to promote her work online and said, “not everyone will like your work and it’s personal, I have to remind myself of that.”

She said, “I believe everyone has creativity, but lots of young people don’t know how to channel it into something. Most young people have access to a pen and paper.”

Bollom attended her first author event with InkLink Events in London in September where she sold copies, signed books and met with fellow creatives.

She said, “It was a true pinch-me moment. A few even said they came specifically for me which was so incredible and I’m so grateful for that day!”

Bollom shared online how this time in November is special as it marks the five-year anniversary of the first idea of A Royal’s Game.

The book also celebrated its one-year anniversary last May.

She is currently working on writing an adult murder mystery, alongside also querying her next adult portal fantasy book to agents.
