Former owner and chairman of AFC Bournemouth, Jeff Mostyn, had high praise for former Cherries manager, Eddie Howe.
The pair achieved incredible feats together, being the only chairman and manager partnership to lead the same club in all four of English footballs top divisions.
Mostyn stepped down from his role as chairman last year following Bill Foley’s takeover of the club from Maxim Demin.
Eddie Howe left Bournemouth on August 1st, 2020, before joining Newcastle in 2021.
Regarding his and Eddie’s run through the divisions, Jeff said: “That quote came from the late, great, John Motson in the boardroom and I was really, really proud of that.
“Most chairman’s don’t start at minus seventeen points, but still even at zero points it’s an incredible achievement.”
He said: “Eddie is like my son – we were together for over a decade, bearing in mind he was at the football club when I bought it in 2006.
He was working with what you and I know now as the academy players, and he’s just an absolute gentleman.”
He added: “I’d like to say we have regular contact, even if it’s just once a month it’s more regular than I thought it would be when he moved to Newcastle.”
Mostyn shared: “Ironically, I’m going to be with Eddie next Tuesday in Newcastle – they’re coming to Waterstones to do a book signing with me, and I think if ever there was an answer to the question of how close we are, can you ever imagine a manager and an assistant manager going to meet with a chairman of a club they left to do something of that magnitude.”
“He’s just the most wonderful person, I learn a lot from him even having just celebrated my 80th birthday, I have this insatiable appetite for personal development, and I can learn an awful lot from Eddie.”
