Reza Seewooruthun is set to compete in the first round of the 2026 Formula Regional Middle East Trophy this weekend, marking the beginning of a busy motorsports campaign for the year.

Earlier today, Seewooruthun came 15th and 23rd in the official test sessions. In other sessions held at the beginning of the week, he placed as high as fourth and fifth.

The Dorset-based driver, originally from Poole, is switching teams to run with Rodin Motorsport for his second season in the championship. His entry with the British-based team is part of a larger partnership that will also see him compete with them in the Formula Regional European Championship later this year.

Last year, he competed with Indian outfit Mumbai Falcons for nine of the 15 rounds. Despite not completing a full campaign, Seewooruthun attained 28 points in six races to finish 17th in the standings. His best result came during the second round held in Abu Dhabi, where he finished sixth.

The 19-year-old also participated in British series GB3 in 2025, placing fifth in the championship standings. He scored 315 points across the eight rounds, securing his only win at the Hungaroring and scoring a further four podiums.

The first round of the championship will be held at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, with a further three rounds scheduled for the next month. Formula 1’s finale is held at middle eastern track each year, alongside other series such as endurance racing taking trips to Yas Island.

Having raced at Yas Marina Circuit 14 times throughout his junior single-seater career, he enters the weekend with a great deal of experience.

With Dorset producing few motorsports prospects, Seewooruthun will be one for local motorsports enthusiasts to watch throughout the year.

Round 1 Schedule

Saturday 17 January:

– Qualifying 1: 14:00 (10:00 GMT)

– Qualifying 2: 14:25 (10:25 GMT)

– Race 1: 17:50 (13:50 GMT)

Sunday 18 January:

– Race 2: 11:30 (7:30 GMT)

– Race 3: 15:25 (11:25 GMT)

All qualifying sessions and races will be livestreamed on the series’ YouTube channel.
