Students compete for cash prizes on ITV’s This Morning

January 20, 2026 //  by Justina Reynolds

Students gathered at Bournemouth University as ITV’s ‘This Morning’ gave them a chance to compete for prizes.

The Student Union building was buzzing with excitement Monday morning with Jake Quickenden ready to present the competition.

Quickenden said: “I think the students will enjoy this today, and obviously with a lot of media students here since this is the industry that they really want to get into.”

“It’s just really nice for them to get a little bit of an insight into how TV works, how hard it is, how exhausting it is, but how fun it is as well.” Quickenden added.

The event ran from 10:00am to 12:30pm, giving students a chance to win prizes from money to chocolate bars.

The chosen students had to answer general knowledge questions (as easy as “what do bees make”) to select boxes which contained prizes. These prizes ranged from Uber vouchers and snacks to cash.

Quickenden explained how fun it can be to go out and do jobs like this, and how much it means to him: “There’s loads of energy and it’s really fun, and I think that’s what I like about the job, it’s always different.

“It’s lovely to meet new people, and you’ve got to be quick thinking. You’ve got to stay on your toes but it’s really, really fun,” He continued.

Even if students were not able to take part in the competition, that didn’t mean they lost out on their five minutes of fame. All the students who turned up got a chance to be on camera, holding signs to promote the show and cheering on the contestants.

Kit, a student at Bournemouth University, was thrilled to have a chance at being on TV. “I was terrified before the show, and I was texting my mum and dad. I was like ‘I’m going to be on TV!’. So it was kind of exciting, but also kind of terrifying.”

This event gave students an opportunity they are unlikely to get again. With a chance to shadow industry workers as well feature on national TV, the event will be the talk of campus for a long time.
