Consistency key to Hamworthy play-off push

January 20, 2026 //  by Marcus Maccormack

Hamworthy Recreation continued their play off push as they took down New Milton Town in a close match at Fawcetts Field last Saturday.

Hamworthy have two games in hand over Laverstock & Ford who occupy the final play off spot, with five points separating the two sides.

Having entered the second half of the season with only 18 games left, ‘The Rec’s’ Assistant manager Chris Senior spoke about how stability will be the key to a successful play-off run for the rest of the season.

Senior said: “In terms of what we need it is just about being consistent, if we can be consistent until the end of the season who knows where we will go.”

Senior talked about how players moving around has impacted their squad: “I think the league is so tight from second to 12th it will be about who can put a run together.

“We are a little bit light (on players) but we are starting to get some bodies back. We have had a bit of a transition for the last four or five weeks with outgoing players.

“We are starting to rebuild the squad. It isn’t an ideal time to be rebuilding but that is the way things go.”

However, after being suspended from Bashley F.C for three games after a straight red, Jack Lovell is allowed to play for Hamworthy during this period.

Senior discussed the impact he has had on the squad: “Jack is a great lad, I’ve worked with Jack for the last four or five years maybe more you can see it he is starting to get fitter now.

“He brings that kind of experience in terms of a voice when he is playing up front you can see him marshalling everyone in behind.

“I think his fitness is coming back, he didn’t stop running until the end so that’s good to see. The only thing missing today was a goal.

We have got him for one more game and we will utilise that at home next week against Hythe.”

After their 1-0 win against New Milton last Saturday, The Rec will be looking to build on this momentum against 18th placed Hythe & Dibden this weekend as they push for the play off spots.
