Wimborne trip to Plymouth postponed

Wimborne Town’s Southern League Premier South fixture away at Plymouth Parkway tonight has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Parkway’s home ground, Bolitho Park.

The club have announced that details regarding a new date and time for the game will be released in due course.

Tim Sills’ side had been hopeful of ending their ten-game winless run in all competitions tonight against a relegation threatened Parkway side, as they bid to close a nine-point gap to the playoff positions.

The Magpies will be hoping to have built some momentum after Max Bustamante’s late equaliser rescued a point at home to Hungerford Town on Saturday.

Parkway themselves were due to come into tonight highly hopeful off the back of a huge 2-1 win away at Uxbridge over the weekend, after goals from James Watts-Barciela and Gunnar Franke brought Chris McPhee’s side to within just one point of safety, whilst having three games in hand over 18th placed Weymouth.

Tonight’s postponement is the second time this game has been postponed this season, after first being scheduled for the 25th November, prior to the Wimborne Town team coach being involved in a collision, which initially forced the game to be called off.

Wimborne Town previously defeated Parkway in the reverse fixture back in September, where goals from Lewis Williams, Will Fletcher and Joe Smith secured a 3-2 win.

Fixture postponements have resulted in both Wimborne Town and Plymouth Parkway playing just 24 league games so far this season, in a league where clubs such as Evesham United and Weymouth have played 27.

Wimborne Town will next be in action on Saturday, again on the road, as they travel to 16th placed Taunton, in a game which may be considered a must win if the Magpies are to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.

An FA Trophy 1-0 defeat at home to Chatham Town, a Dorset Senior Cup 4-2 defeat at Weymouth and a 3-0 defeat at home to Worthing in FA Cup qualifying ensures Sills’ side are out of all cup competitions, with full focus now on a positive end to their Southern League Premier South campaign.
