Ultra MMA organisers are looking to bring the opportunity window to a close this week ahead of their event this coming March.
The O2 Academy is bringing a charity driven Ultra MMA fight night to Bournemouth, taking place on Friday 20th March.
The UK wide initiative gives beginners the chance to participate in an eight-week free MMA training plan before competing in the charity event.
Oscar Pulsford, a fighter who signed up for the event, is using the event to make some changes in his life and shine a light on his personal struggles.
“I was thinking about it for a while, I promised my little brother and now I have that opportunity. It was partly the charity and but more so a personal challenge. I think it (MMA) can bring people together, but it does have a bad reputation, it gives people a way to physically express themselves.”
“I think the charity aspect was a driving force, it was in relation to my friend who passed away, the charity ‘Mind’ sponsored his funeral and it was a big thing for me to raise money for them.”
“I think seeing a different side to myself and stripping away everything else I have, you are being vulnerable and you are putting yourself in danger”
“I think the charity aspect was a driving force, it was in relation to my friend who passed away, the charity Mind sponsored his funeral and it was a big thing for me to raise money for them.”
“It is pushing me forward and it adds responsibility over doing it just for me, I can use that as a crutch to push me forward. It puts me out of my comfort zone and everyone is looking for a connection through something. Somehow beating the hell out of each other brings people together”
Over £42 million has been raised since 2014 and this year alone Ultra Events has raised £145,180 in total.
The event looks to get people into the sport of mixed martial arts, being a high-risk sport, the coaches required for beginners need a certain level of ability to train these up-and-coming fighters.
Odyssey Combat hub in Winton will be the training venue for the event and jiu-jitsu black belt, Kerry Isom, will be leading the training for the beginners.
