An asylum seeker has been sentenced to seven years for rape after a trial at Bournemouth Crown Court.

Chret Callender, 28 from Trinidad, denied the offences but was found guilty of assaulting a woman in her twenties at her Bournemouth home.

The victim had seen Callender on a night out in the town centre on June 14th 2025, before he turned up at her address.

She let him in, hoping Callender would leave, but the defendant began to make sexual advances.

He assaulted and raped the victim, despite her not giving her consent.

In court, the victim said: “What he did that night destroyed my sense of safety. The attack has left deep emotional wounds I carry every day.

“I now suffer panic attacks, anxiety and fear. I no longer feel safe in a place I call home.”

The victim recorded the attack, which was played out as evidence for the court.

In the recording, the victim said: “I have said no, please stop,” to which Callender replied, “Have some respect for me.”

During the sentencing, Judge Fuller KC said: “You behaved in an animalistic way, ignoring her cries and pain.”

Callender is a Trinidadian and Tobagonian national who gave his self-defined ethnicity as black Caribbean including black British.

Chret Callender was charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault and one count of rape.
