Q Sports Bar in Boscombe is moving with the times, as they reshape their darts set up.
The bar, that had been open as Spectrum bar since 2005, has been taken over by owners, Mark King and Lee Hamill and has since been refurbished.
The new-look sports bar is keeping up with the times, by tapping into the second most watched sport in the UK, darts.
“We know it’s a big sport for students, so we would love to have them down for some competitions.”
The bar, located on Christchurch Road, is in the development stage of transitioning their snooker room into a room dedicated to darts, with the opportunities for events to come.
“We have got our older clientele who come in and play pool every week, but we can’t just rely on them. This is where the young people fit in, they are the future of the club.”
The bar is sticking to its roots though, with 11 English pool tables, and 5 American tables also.
“Our tables are maintained to a high standard, we also have leagues that are playing from here most nights of the week, there is a mixture of people coming in for recreational pool and snooker.”
In a time where nightlife is a struggling industry, Hamill and King are taking the plunge.
“We’re new owners, this is a new business as such. Our emphasis is to make a more modern and sleek venue for young people to come and play pool and darts.” Said Hamlin.
“I think the biggest reaction for me is they walk through the door and they’ve heard it’s been refurbished or changed, Ah, I didn’t know it was like this.”
The new owners admitted the refurbishment was a large job, with their opening task being the removal of three layers of carpet.
“They think maybe a lick of paint or something, but we’ve totally, totally refurbished it.”
With plenty of sport to come this year, including the Super Bowl on February 8th, as well as the 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup in the USA this summer, Q Sports Bar will be getting a lot of use out of their new facilities.
