The UEFA Champions League draw has commenced today, with some interesting ties
The first draw sees Borussia Dortmund host Atalanta. Dortmund will be going into the fixture without a win in three games, losing their last game 2-0 to last year’s runners-up Inter Milan. Atalanta, who sit two positions above them in 15th, go into the match losing narrowly to Union Saint-Gilloise 1-0.
The second tie drawn is Olympiakos vs Bayer Leverkusen. Olympiakos, who sit in 18th, are on a great run of form, winning their last three games with wins over Volos, Ajax and Leverkusen.
The last time Olympiakos and Bayer Leverkusen met, the Greek giants beat the German side 2-0. Bayer Leverkusen go into the fixture strong with a big 3-0 win over Spanish side Villarreal. Bayer Leverkusen will be looking for revenge this time around.
Galatasaray have their work cut out for them as they host Juventus. Galatasaray sit in 20th, not getting a win in their last five games. They lost their last game 2-0 to 8th–place Manchester City.
Juventus are going into the game in good form. The Italian side hasn’t lost in their last five games; however, drawing their last game 0-0 against the French side Monaco.
The fourth draw sees Club Brugge play Atletico Madrid. The Belgian side won their last game against Marseille 3-0 in a comfortable win. 14th–place Atletico Madrid have won three of their last games; however, they fell short to 23rd–place FK Bodø/Glimt in a huge upset.
The Azerbaijan side Qarabağ FK draw premier league side Newcastle. Qarabağ come into the fixture off the back of a huge 6-0 defeat to Liverpool, whereas 12th–place Newcastle go into the match off a 1-1 draw to current champions PSG.
Two rival sides, Monaco and Paris St-Germain, have been drawn. The last time these two sides met was in the Trophée des Champions final, where PSG scored a last-minute winner, bringing the title to Paris.
The reigning Champions League champions haven’t won in their last three games, drawing their last game 1-1 against Newcastle. 21st–place Monaco drew their last Champions League game against Juventus.
Benfica host Real Madrid in the next round in a rematch. The two teams played each other on Wednesday, where Benfica beat the Spanish giants 4-2 in a shock win, with the Benfica goalkeeper scoring in the final minute to send the Portuguese side into the next round. Real Madrid will be ready to correct their mistakes this time around.
The final draw sees Bodo Glimt take on Inter Milan. The Norwegian side currently sits in 23rd place in a good run of form, winning their last two games against Atletico Madrid and Manchester City.
The Serie A leaders sit in 10th position; however, they have only won two out of their last five games, winning their last match 2-0 against Borussia Dortmund.
