Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) council have announced there will be major roadworks across the area, as they tackle the problems which were put forward during the public engagement in 2024.
Roadworks are going to be carried out in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole from October 26th until the 1st of November.
Bournemouth resident Irem Gilgil, who drives to work daily, is affected by the current maintenance works.
She said: “When there’s road closures and I know it’s going to take me a while to get somewhere, I will make arrangements where I don’t have to go there. I’ll just do a food shop online or something similar. Roadworks affect me going out as regularly.
“However, it doesn’t make me want to use public transport because the route of the public transport is set, and I would rather take a detour with my car to reach my location quicker.”
A number of roads across these areas are set to cause delay and disruption: Alder Road, Beechey Road, Broom Road in Poole, Holdenhurst Road, Christchurch Road, Columbia Road, Creekmoor Road in Bournemouth.
The BCP council project aims to create a safer, more accessible environment by improving facilities for pedestrians and people with disabilities. This will make the area easier and more pleasant for the public to navigate.
The planned changes include lowering speed limits to 20mph on more residential streets, along with the A35 and Ashley Road. This will be funded through the partnership with Better Boscombe. A new zebra crossing is also proposed on Christchurch Road to help residents and school children cross safely.
In addition, cycle wands would be installed along the existing cycle lanes between Heathcote Road and Portman Road to improve safety for cyclists.
