Last night, Bournemouth played host to the event #ScrewItJustDoIt encouraging young entrepreneurs to start their companies here in Dorset.
A Q&A session with industry professionals took place featuring some of Bournemouth’s largest business success stories, including entrepreneurial giant and Bournemouth 7s founder Roger Woodall.
Statistics released at the beginning of this year by Inform Direct show that 8,314 companies were set up in Dorset during 2018, exceeding its previous best of 8,113 back in 2016.

Although these statistics seem promising for the area, young entrepreneurs are still fleeing the coast and heading to larger cities to grow their start-ups.
“Events like these are so invaluable for young entrepreneurs to show that there is a real dynamism in Dorset,” says Liz Willingham, the president of Dorset’s Chamber of Commerce.
“The bright lights will always attract young talent who have studied here, to move away from it. It is vital that we retain as many of these individuals as possible.”
Buzz reporter Molly Gardner headed over to Start Up U’s #ScrewItJustDoIt event last night.
She investigates how events like these are beginning to shift their focus onto the younger generation, highlighting why they should stay and grow their businesses right here in Bournemouth.
