Newcastle Upon Tyne Central beat Sunderland South to the punch and declared first with a Labour victory for Chi Onwurah.
She was elected with 21,568 votes, giving her a majority of 12,278.
The neighbouring Sunderland South also re-elected Labour candidate Bridget Phillipson with 16,210, a much closer battle with the Conservatives registering 13,095.
Phillipson and Onwurah both started their tenures as MP’s in the 2010 May election, with both holding their posts in each election since.
